What is Semaglutide
Semaglutide, commonly known as Wegovy or Ozempic, is an FDA-approved hormone-based type of anti-obesity drug that can effectively help patients control their appetite and feel fuller after meals, making it easier to lose weight.
How does it work?
Semaglutide works on the area of the brain that regulates appetite to decrease your appetite and cravings and slow down gastrointestinal motility. It also stimulates insulin secretion from the pancreas and reduces production of glucose in the liver to improve blood sugar level. All these work towards promoting healthy weight loss.
What to expect?
Unlike other weight-loss drugs, Semaglutide has been proven to help patients lose 5% to 10% of their body fat and, in some cases, up to 15%. On average, patients on semaglutide were able to lose 8-10 lbs per month, but results do vary per patient.
What does the program entail?
We provide free consultations to see if you’d be a good candidate for the program! Once you are approved and ready to start, we are offering our patients complimentary weekly B12 lipotropic “fat burner” injections (value of $200) to counter a potential side effect of nausea. The program also includes weekly check-ins with the doctor for close doctor-supervision. We offer both an oral (troche) form as well as an injectable form of the medication.
Potential side effects/contraindications
Some of the potential side effects are: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach (abdomen) pain, headache, tiredness (fatigue), upset stomach, dizziness, feeling bloated, belching, gas, stomach flu and heartburn. Hence, it is better to take the medication at night.
Semaglutide is contraindicated if the patient or a family member have ever had a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). It is also contraindicated if you are currently on other GLP-1 medications or have had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or any of the ingredients in semaglutide.
