WHAT IS ACUPRESSURE?
Acupressure is a gentle therapy that can make significant health benefits on anyone, from weak to strong, or from young to old! It is an ancient therapy developed over 5000 years ago, and is a big part of traditional Chinese medicine. Using specific placements of fingers on specific parts of your body, gentle pressure is applied to stimulate healing in your body. Each point belongs to a channel of energy in your body called ‘meridians’. By unblocking these channels, it will ease your pain, enhance circulation, relax and release tension in your body, and give you more energy.

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM ACUPUNCTURE?
Many have heard of acupuncture and have tried it before for their conditions. Dr. Alice loves providing acupressure in her office because it gives you all the same benefits as acupuncture, however, is completely needle free and pain free. This way, she can treat from babies all the way up to the seniors without stirring up the fear in needle-phobic patients!

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM ACUPRESSURE?
Acupressure is very relaxing, and because it is done through manual pressure from
the doctor’s fingertips, it is very therapeutic for those suffering with headaches,
insomnia, anxiety, depression, motion sickness, fatigue, or just for stress
management. It also helps to relieve tension in the body and benefits those with
any sort of injury, pain, or cramps. It can also be performed to reset or nourish
some of the endocrine pathways, and help bring more blood flow to the
endocrine organs. Acupressure also benefits those with nausea or other
digestive issues.

WHAT IS QI AND WHAT ARE MERIDIANS?
Qi, in traditional Chinese medicine, is a type of energy that represents your vital
force. It flows along the specific points in your body (acupuncture points), in a pathway
called meridians. Meridians help connect the flow of energy to your internal organs.
When there is an obstruction to this flow of energy, there is often pain or swelling in
the area. Stimulating the points will therefore help proper flow of your Qi, and will
help you thrive.
PRECAUTIONS?
If you are pregnant, there are certain pressure points that are considered off-limits because they may encourage labor. Pregnant women should always check with their doctors before using acupressure treatments. Anyone with a serious medical condition or life-threatening disease should always consult their doctor before using acupressure.
Acupressure is not meant to be a substitute for necessary medical intervention.
